Welcome to Landing Trail Intermediate School

We’re happy to have you as part of our school community!
This brochure provides important information for students and families new to our school!

Academic Focus
LTIS puts an emphasis on academic learning and growth. We believe children like to learn and like to succeed at school. We strongly encourage parents and staff to communicate regularly regarding their child’s academic progress.

If your child is absent for any reason, please phone or email the school. Please also note that students cannot change their regular afterschool transportation arrangements without a note or phone call from a parent/guardian.

Student Safety
Once school begins in the morning, all doors except the main front doors are locked, and students are only let into their boot rooms at the end of recess. If you are coming into the school at any time during school hours, you need to sign in at the office and get a visitor badge. If you are picking up or dropping off your child, please do not drive or park in the bus lane/parking lot on the west side of the school.

School Supplies
Each grade has a unique school supply list for the English and French
Immersion programs. Lists can be found on the school website (ltis.aspenview.org) under the “Quick Links”

All students in Grades 4-6 will be given a school agenda on the first day, which they are expected to bring back and forth between school and home each day. Please read and initial the agenda daily.

Students will be assigned a locker on the first day. A combination lock must be purchased from the LTIS office for $8.00. These can be purchased starting in June so your child can practice with them over the summer.

School Activities
Our school has monthly assemblies with presentations, celebrations and helpful information. Parents are always welcome to attend. We also have many fun activities catering to student interests, such as the 1K walk/run club, noon hour cross-country ski club, talent show, Christmas concert, LTIS choir, science fair and many more!

Outdoor Activities
LTIS students and staff are encouraged, for health reasons, to use the outdoors every day. It is common to see classes in the outdoor setting, meeting learner outcomes in Science, Phys. Ed., Art and Health.

PowerSchool Parent Portal is an online tool that links parents and students to real-time information regarding their education, including grades, attendance and other features. LTIS uses Parent Portal extensively, so we encourage all parents to become familiar with it. Information on setting up and using Parent Portal can be found on our website under the ‘Parents’ tab. Your child’s homeroom teacher will also send regular emails to update you regarding student learner activities. As well, please check our website and Facebook page regularly.

Comprehensive School Health
LTIS recognizes that physical and mental health are essential for student and staff fulfillment. LTIS is proud to be an APPLE school, encouraging healthy eating and fun activities for our students. We have daily Phys. Ed. classes and a ‘Grab n Go’ breakfast program that provides a healthy morning snack to anyone who needs it. Please note, we do not make any judgment on food that students bring to school.
LTIS also promotes mental health through accountability of actions and resilience in the face of adversity.

Student Behavior Management
Students are encouraged to always be accountable for their decisions and actions. Students work with staff to regulate emotions and behavior where needed.

What do LTIS students learn?
Students spend their day learning the provincially-approved Program of Studies for Grades 4, 5 & 6, which can be found on the Alberta Education website (education.alberta.ca) We supplement this learning with field trips, special presentations and extra-curricular activities. LTIS students also have the opportunity to be involved in many after school activities as well as citizenship projects.

Indigenous Students
Many students at LTIS come from First Nations, Métis or Inuit backgrounds. Landing Trail Intermediate School respectfully acknowledges that we are situated on Treaty 8 territory, traditional lands of First Nations and Métis peoples. We have a very important relationship with the Athabasca Native Friendship Centre and we are proud to work alongside our aboriginal community members.

Student Services
LTIS offers counselling services with our school counselor and school therapist. Our Inclusive Education coordinator, Sheena Garton, is available to set up student programming for diverse learner needs.
