Dear LTIS Parent/Caregiver,

Welcome to the end of April. A lot is happening in the next two weeks at LTIS; there will be excellent learning opportunities for your child.

Speaking of learning opportunities, as you know, next week is our federal election. LTIS grade 6 students will be participating in a parallel election through Student Vote Canada. This means that they will go to the polls Monday, April 28, in the LTIS foyer, the same day of the actual election, to cast their ballot for the actual candidates in their riding. The group that promotes Student Vote Canada, CIVIX, provides interested schools with all materials used in real elections (ballots, ballot boxes, screens, etc.). Some students will work as election officials (poll clerks, returning officers, etc.) All students in Canada have the opportunity to take part in this election and we wanted to give our students this opportunity to engage with the campaign and the democratic process. Here is what it says on the SV website: Student Vote is a parallel election for students under the voting age, coinciding with official election periods. The purpose is to provide young Canadians with an opportunity to experience the democratic process firsthand and practice the habits of informed and engaged citizenship. The activities are intended to inform students about government and the electoral process, encourage research into the candidates and issues, and foster dialogue among students and their families. Voting will start first thing in the morning. Our results will be submitted to SV Canada, made public sometime after 8PM, Monday, April 28.

Other happenings at the school include:

  • 1K Club Spring kick off is Monday, April 28.
  • LTIS Board Game club will be offered after school starting next week.
  • Woodland Kids will be opening sometime next week.

Finally, we have our Blast From The Past theme day tomorrow; please feel free to join the fun. There is also the Family Lunch tomorrow followed by a parent feedback session if interested.

Regards,

Joe MacIsaac, Principal

Treena Michalski, Assistant Principal
